Institute
Students
The Institute of Technolgy Law was established
in 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, aiming
to provide an integrated training in technology and law to postgraduate
students and executive masters. Students were divided into two
groups according to their backgrounds. The Technology-based Group
admitted students specialized in science, engineering, medicine,
agriculture, while the Law-based Group was for graduate students
of law. These postgraduate students often already have several
years of work experience in related jobs, mostly in the high-tech
field, or as judges prosecutors and lawyers.
In ITL's first student recruitment in the year
2000, 20 students were selected from among many talented individuals
after a competitive screening process. Among these students, several
had also been admitted to other graduate institutes, yet every
single one chose to study at the Institute of Technology Law here
at NCTU. A third of those applying for postgraduate courses already
had Master's Degrees, and several others were held Doctor's Degrees.
Most of the students admitted to the Technology-based Group had
worked as engineers, managers and even deputy directors with several
years of experience in technology and management work. Meanwhile,
students of the Law-based Group were composed mainly of judges,
prosecutors, lawyers, general counsels of high-tech companies,
and also a doctor. This assemblage of talented professionals not
only shows the urgent need for professionals in this field, but
also proves our persistent belief of the need to integrate technology
and law in response to changes in society.
The Institue's goal is to integrate the training
of proffesionals in traditional law and in technology. The courses
put emphasis on the research of technology law as well as independent
thinking, in order to train professionals talented in law as well
as technology. This will hopefully raise the quality of Taiwan's
law education, as well as legal management in Taiwan busineses.
