If law matches up to contemporary
change, peace and order will be assured. The manifestation
and development of legal system are working in close collaboration
with social movement. In this fast and ever-changing era,
the operation of legal system should neither stick to
established practice nor be complacent and conservative.
In view of this, the Institute of Technology Law was established
in April of 2000 in response to the diversity and complexity
of this developing society. Its objective and aspiration
are innovative and the first of its kind in Taiwan legal
education.
Although the Institute is a new one, the
program of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) has been
well established in the NCTU ever since 1992. The IPR
program has been very successful in Taiwan and NCTU has
become the leading university in this area. More than
2000 students, including the university undergraduates,
postgraduates, industrial professionals, and many research
specialists, have taken NCTU's courses for professional
training. Moreover, ever since 1997, NCTU has hosted the
National Conference on IPR and Technology Law which is
the most important and largest professional as well as
academic forum in Taiwan.
There are two different types of classes
under this Institute, they are The Legal Class and The
Technology Class. The Legal Class is for the students
who already had a law degree and want to improve their
ability in Technology law issues. The Technology Class
is for those students graduated from other science disciplines
but want to accept the laws training and synthesize legal
and technology issues.
Creating new technology and intellectual
property are the most essential capacity for global competition
as well as the basic requirement for Taiwan to become
a technology island. Under the trend of globalization
and the coming era of knowledge, cultivating students
with professional sense in technology and law would be
the most emergent issue as the science and technology
industry of Taiwan has become increasingly important in
global supply chain.
The Institute is positioned as professional
school for postgraduate student and aims to recruit students
who have bachelor or other degrees. Based on the long
experienced research on intellectual property, this program
will provide students the complete courses of general
law and Anglo-American law as well as emphasize the new
developing issue such as the Internet, e-commerce and
genetic technology and other issues resulting from the
advance of technology. Last but not the least, this program
will help students implement the knowledge of law and
technology into the industry.
